Designed to enhance the architecture of the then new building of City of Bristol College on St.George's Road, Bristol. There were several coloured walls, the largest of which was a central drum (painted blue) enclosing the central stairway. The colours of the spots are arranged in rainbow-order, changing gradually as one walks alongside the wall. Suggestions of water and navigation chants are deliberate.
acrylic paint, masonry paint, weather and grafitti proof resin varnish
After two or three years the blue wall accummulated a lot of dirty foot-prints as students rested against it as they smoked out in the fresh air. Not knowing the mural was easily washable, someone decided the wall should be repainted (plain off-white) to hide the dirty foot-prints, and the artwork. Also then smoking became banned from the whole premises.
